I have just been selected for the second stage of Neo: artprize, at Neo: gallery22 in Bolton. More than 560 entries were received from all corners of the world including Syria, Israel and the USA from artists working across the whole range of media. The quality of the diverse and vibrant entries really impressed the judges: Laurie Peake, Programme Director of The Liverpool Biennial, Paul Stolper, Director of The Paul Stolper Gallery, London,''An amazing body of work, and so difficult to choose from'', Mike Chavez-Dawson, Artist and Curator,''..the judging has been a lot harder than I anticipated as the quality and variety of work was exceptional - coming from a painting back ground originally and having a personal passion as a collector of contemporary drawing it's been really exciting, the photographic, video and digital media too has enthralled me. . '' and Iain Andrews Winner of The Marmite Prize for Painting 2011,'. . a tough job!'', who have kindly donated their time and professional expertise to make the competition possible. The art prize, now in it's second year, is part of an ongoing programme of high profile exhibitions and competitions organised by Bolton based neo:studios, an artist-led, not-for-profit organisation founded in 2007. neo:artprize2013 is an open exhibition inviting work from artists of all ages and nationalities who practice contemporary visual art. The independent jury, who also award the main prizes, select works anonymously from an open submission. The prize aims provide a platform for artists and to bring the best contemporary art from across the world to Bolton. An exhibition showcasing the work of all the final short-listed artists will be held in neo:gallery22, The Market Place in the centre of Bolton opening on Thursday 13th June.
